Are there any “advertorials” where it is not clear if something is an article or an

advert, or a mixture of both?

yes, it looks as if it is an article/ interview with a band but it is a set of reviews for different albums. The fact that there is a huge picture with writing beneath it makes it look as if it is an interview as it mirrors others in the magazine.

How does the magazine achieve a unified “house style”? Think about

language and mode of address, colour schemes, graphical elements, etc.

The colour scheme for most of the double apge spreads and throughotu the whole magazine is red, white, black and yellow. The mode of address is informal and more conversational to create a friendly tone to the magazine. As well as this in terms of graphical elements the pictures seem to be in the centre or the biggest object on the page to draw attention to it and catch the eye of the audience.

Why is this house style appropriate to the target audience? What assumptions

does it imply about the TA?

The house style is appropriate to the target audience as it needs to keep the same look so that the audience and others around can identify that magazine easier. It also creates a brand identity and a name for the magazine if they have a 'look' to the magazine. It allows the audience to set it apart from the other magazines. As well as this it can mirror how the target audience is, for example a messy layout can suggest the target audience have a messy home/room and more relaxed in that way. Through this the magazine is able to develop a 'friend' type relationship with the audience and create a connection that would make them want to keep reading or buy it again.

There are 8 double page spreads in this edition of Kerrang! They all appear to be interviews with celebrities linked to the music genre of rock. This is significant as it is these questions that makes it seem as if the audience is close with the celebrities and creates the exclusivity to the magazine as it is information only they know.
